WHAT’S BROKEN IN THE SYSTEM

Canada’s parole system plays a critical role in public safety and rehabilitation. However, serious concerns have emerged regarding transparency, consistency, and accountability in decision-making.

Individuals and families across the country are impacted by decisions that are often difficult to understand, challenge, or review.

The Canadian Parole Board Reform Initiative exists to bring these issues into the open and advocate for meaningful, evidence-based reform.

OUR REFORM PLAN

The Canadian Parole Board Reform Initiative outlines practical, evidence-based reforms to strengthen transparency, accountability, and fairness within Canada’s parole system.

1. Increased Transparency in Decision-Making

Parole decisions should include clear, accessible explanations that allow individuals and families to understand how and why outcomes are reached.

2. Standardized Decision Guidelines

Establishing clearer, consistent criteria can reduce disparities and ensure similar cases are treated fairly across the system.

3. Independent Review Mechanisms

Introduce stronger, independent avenues for reviewing and challenging decisions to improve accountability and public trust.

4. Improved Communication and Access

Ensure that individuals affected by parole decisions have timely access to information, updates, and support throughout the process.

5. Ongoing Oversight and Reporting

Regular public reporting on decision patterns and outcomes can help identify systemic issues and drive continuous improvement.

The Canadian Parole Board Reform Initiative is not currently accepting donations. Our focus remains on research, advocacy, and advancing meaningful reform. Opportunities for public support may be introduced in the future.
